Chris Foster at it again!

Motor Tabs sponsored athlete Chris Foster at it again, adding another victory to his already long list of accomplishments. We are proud to provide him with our one of a kind portable sports drink! Chris Foster is definitely an expert in the realm of endurance racing and understands the importance of electrolytes and keeping hydrated! Here is what he has to say from his latest adventure.

"This last weekend, I pointed my bike north and headed to Canada for a medium-sized race called the Tecumseh Triathlon (formerly Windsor Triathlon). Tecumseh is a small town in Ontario, Canada just a few miles from Detroit, MI, so it's not exactly in the heart of the Yukon, but the people were friendly enough to make it quite...Canadian. The race featured a solid amount of pro athletes and a $5,000 prize purse, and with money only going to the first three spots, the battle for the front was going to be close and fast.

The swim was in Lake Huron, just before the Detroit River, so the water was very shallow for the first and last 150+ meters. Because it was so shallow, when the gun went off, instead of taking off swimming like everyone else, I dolphined (jumping forward, diving, pushing off the bottom, repeat...) the first 150m to try to conserve energy. I didn't necessarily gain any ground, I stayed mostly even with the leaders, but I was less tired for the effort. The lead swimmers were very good (a couple of them are in the front pack of ITU races) and pulled away a little bit, until the water became shallow again with like 200m to go, and I started reeling them back in by dolphining again! Soon the others saw what I was doing and started following suit, but I had started getting close to the leaders and exited only 10sec. down off the lead pack of three!

After a quick transition onto the bike, I settled in a little bit behind the two leaders (one guy dropped almost immediately) and had a strong ride despite having very strong head and crosswinds most of the way. I pushed pretty hard to stay with the two in front of me and ended up averaging 360 watts for the 30k pancake-flat bike course (averaging almost 25mph). I didn't have a great transition into T2--the dismount line must have been drawn in pencil on the road, as no one saw it until the last minute.

Heading out onto the run, the two guys in front had about 25 sec. on me and the temperatures were rising into the upper 80s as the sun came out and the wind died down. Fortunately, I found my legs pretty quickly on the run (good thing as it was a short 3.5 mile run!), and I was able to catch both of the guys in front of me in the first kilometer! After passing them, I more or less maintained a moderate pace (especially in the tough heat) and cruised it in for the win!!

Even with shutting it down in the last half of the run, I was still able to win by almost a minute over the next guy, and from what I could tell had one of the fastest times (greatest margin to the winning female athlete who has won six years in a row) at this event in many years.

I was very happy with each of my legs--swimming with some very fast front pack guys who have been *minutes* in front of me at races in past years; having a solid bike, despite hurting due to all of the hard workouts I had done in the days leading up to this race; and being able to have a fast run despite "shutting it down" a little bit in the heat of the afternoon.

I'm proud of this race because it was a good showing despite having a very hard training week leading up to the race, and I feel like I competed well against some strong Canadian competition!

I have also included a few pictures from the race to be used for whatever you want. Please don't be frightened by the mop of hair covering my head.

Thank you as always for your support and encouragement in all of my racing and travels--each race, no matter how big or small is just a building block to get to the top in the years to come!"

Chris Foster, a world champ in the making!

Motor Tabs sponsored triathlete Chris Foster has been selected for the US National Duathlon Team that will be competing in Duathlon World Championships on Sept. 26 in Concord, NC. This is a great honor to be recognized as one of the top run/bikers in the country and to be able to go head to head with the best in the world!

For those who may be scratching their heads a bit: Duathlon is an offshoot of triathlon that involves a 10k run/40k bike (draft legal in this format)/5k run. It is generally a very competitive and well-known sport in Europe and was quite popular in the US in the 90s. Europeans have historically dominated this event as they have more support for the sport in their respective countries.

Regardless, selections were competitive this year since the World Championships are being held in the US for the first time in many years. As such, the US is making a big effort to showcase this event and hopefully revitalize the sport in this country--in order to help do this, $50,000 of prize money will be offered at this highly competitive event in late September.

We will be sure to stay updated on Chris's results and again we would like to congratulate him on his hard efforts! A well deserved invite Chris, keep it up!

Motor Tabs triathlon team at it again

Continuing through the heavy schedule of triathlons this summer, The Motor Tabs Triathlon Squadron is dominating at all course lengths, continuing to establish a name for themselves in Southern California Triathlon events. This past Sunday, July 26th due to heavy surf, the Pacific Coast Triathlon turned into a Duathlon (No Swim); "The Show Must Go On" ... this is the 2009 USAT National Championships, the strong swimmers had to suck-it-up!

MT Squadron comes through with a sold showing, placing three racers on the podium and two more in the top ten age groups.

The Man on the Mountain was "The Gamble" Kenny Rogers shutting down his rivals and putting him on the top step of the Podium.

Lifeguard and swim specialist Todd Menzel lost his advantage in the water but was a solid performer nonetheless coming in 2nd place.

Longtime surfer Kirk Fitzek also lost the advantage without a big surf swim, also racing strong for another 2nd place finish.

Very strong showings by Miguel Ramos 8th and Tom Stepp 7th respectfully in their age groups rounding out the MT Squadron efforts.

"BMW-Bianchi Enjoys Summer Success July 2009

BMW-Bianchi’s Masters National Championship campaign was a huge success, highlighted by Cara Applegate’s gold medal in the Tandem Road Race with her husband Andy to defend their elite championship and to win silver in the mixed tandem road race! But Cara wasn’t finished there! She collected a 2nd silver medal in the criterium event. Evie Boswell-Vilt joined the fun bringing home a silver medal in the road race.

Erica Allar placed 3rd at the Fitchburg-Longsjo Classic criterium, in the 50th year of the prestigious stage race, with help from team workhorse Kirsten Davis. With this latest NRC podium finish, Allar is ranked 15th overall in the country!

Evie Boswell-Vilt represented the BMW-Bianchi in the category 3 races at Fitchburg-Longjo, placing 5th in the criterium and 3rd in the circuit race.

BMW-Bianchi dominated the Piedmont Triad Omnium in North Carolina with Tonya Lail and Evie Boswell-Vilt tying to win the overall title. Evie won the road race, and took 2nd, 3rd and 8th in the criterium, street sprints and time trial. Tonya enjoyed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishes in the time trial, criterium, road race and street sprints. Laura Weislo posted a strong 4th-place time trial finish for the team.

At the North Carolina State Championships, Janet Edgerton took 2nd place in her age group in the road race, Evie Bowell-Vilt took 2nd in her age group and 6th in the women’s open road race, while Tonya Lail took 2nd in the criterium, 3rd in her age-group road race and 3rd in the NC State Games criterium.

Christy Blakely took the BMW-Bianchi show to Ohio and came home with a 3rd place finish at the Hyde Park Blast in Cincinnati and 5th place at the Tour de Grandview in Columbus."

Motor Tabs @ the Vineman Triathlon

Motor Tabs was put to the test again in the 70.3 mile distance Vineman Triathlon by athlete Chris Berg! Congratulations on your finish!

“The water was 75 degrees, so wetsuits were in play. The event went well, and I was out of the water in about 26 minutes, and onto the bike course. Air temperature was warm once I started the leg, but only to get hotter as the day progressed. I put up my fastest bike split in 2:23:45, using an awesome combination of fruit punch and lemon lime flavored Motor Tabs in my bottles. With the hot weather out, it’s always nice to be able to have a sports drink something that still tastes great warm. I got off the bike in 2nd place for my age group. I ran well, but the heat took the spring out of my legs and I had trouble accelerating to speed up. I ran at 95 minutes flat to take 4th place in my age group and 18th overall. My course total time was 4:28:04, a personal record for myself on a 70.3 mile course.”

How to save a life

A testimonial from Tabs athlete Jennifer Reither! Thanks Jennifer for believing in our product!

" Motor Tabs saved me today. I got out late on a ride and found myself riding in the Santa Monica's in over 100 degree heat on an eight mile climb with only ONE water stop at mile 6. I was extremly fatigued and heat exausted. I filled up my bottle at the ranger station, reach in my pocket and pulled out an Orange Motor Tabs and popped it in my bottle. It was a life saver that Motor Tabs are so easily portable and make warm water extra tasty, not to mention the boost of electrolytes including sodium, potassium and carbs that aided my tired legs. In a few minutes, my head felt clear again and I was refreshed on on my way.

Thanks for your continued support. I don't think I could have finished the ride with out the support of Motor Tabs. "

Tabs athlete Michellie Jones at it again!

Famed triathlete Michellie Jones tears up the competition again! Here is a race report directly from her. We are very proud to sponsor Michellie and provide her with a sports drink that gives her the essential electrolyte balance to get through such a harsh competition! Congratulations Michellie, we look forward to more successes in the future!

"It had been quite a while since I had competed in a 70.3 Ironman distance so I was definetly looking forward to seeing how it would turn out. It would also be interesting to see if all the short course racing I had been doing over the last few months would help.

Race morning the biggest challenge apart from having to get up at midnight California time for a 6am race start was that the swim course bouys had been blown all over the water because of the storm the night before. It also meant a very choppy swim was ahead.

Also the prospect of getting up so early almost made me wish I was a coffee drinker...No not really.:) I always find it quite amusing to watch other athletes the morning of the race frantically looking for there morning coffee fix.

The swim start was delayed a little as the life guards straightened out the course. Which just meant being nervous a little more longer.

Once the start gun finally fired I pretty much did not see anyone until the first turn around on the run as I had a pretty decent swim in the choppy waters and lead out of the water.

Once on the point to point 56mile bike I was passed by a few Pro Men early as I had past them in the swim even though they had a 2 minute head start on the women. I had "Eye of The Tiger" in my head entire bike route. I had absoluetly no idea where anyone else was during the bike.

So as I transitioned from the bike to the run I had to wait another 7 miles on the run before I knew where anyone else was. Finally I got a split as the first turn around and I had over 3 minutes and was feeling strong. The run course was a pretty tough 2 lap course which had a 7% climb each lap. Navigating the 7% climb seemed a lot easier than the pounding your quads got on the way back down.

With the steps of the Rocky movie as the back drop of the finish line I had grand thoughts of running straight through and up the stairs Rocky Balboa style but my legs had other ideas so I settled for just the finishline tape. As they say winner are grinners and I was v ery happy to take the victory. Desiree Flicker had a strong run to finish 2nd while Heather Jackson rounded out the podium

Top five professional women’s results are as follows:
1. Michellie Jones, 4:23:56
2. Desiree Ficker, 4:27:21
3. Heather Jackson, 4:33:39
4. Kim Loeffler, 4:36:53
5. Suzanne Zelazo, 4:40:57

A special Thanks to BrandyB's Mum Patti for looking after us all weekend :) "
